Baroque minimalism, book

Baroque minimalism, book

The book entitled Baroque Minimalism is the author’s book by architect Ondřej Císler. As a habilitation thesis, it developed in various ways and the resulting book is a joint work that the author and I thought about and shaped its final form for quite a long time. Yes, it is quite small compared to the author, it fits in a pocket. Yes, it is actually quite inconspicuous, the choice of paper for the cover ended up with something that can be called earthy felt, the color of polish, the base to which real gold was applied in the Baroque. The book is also graphically structured in a metaphorical way.

The text is divided into small, meaningfully different parts, we wanted the reader to read little, but beautifully. The paragraphs throughout the book seek a connection with the visual accompaniment. We create a visual essay, where the main intention is to literally “teach” a short paragraph of text. The author deals with image, atmosphere and various connections of architectural themes with sincere interest. Therefore, when selecting the images, emphasis was placed on connecting both. Collections of photos from our mobile phones also have a sympathetic position here, as do professional photos of the author’s realizations. The book contains several poems by Petr Borkovec, whose connection with the author’s work is humanly close. The participation of graphic designers is desirable in similar projects, but in the end it is always better when they ultimately sublimate beyond the imaginary book horizon. They disappear. Will we be left with the essence of what we wanted to say?
