The book “Umění lotky” – “The art of the puppets” is our third book about puppets – is has about 1,500 pages in total, which we have given a graphic form to. Even now, however, we don’t know the essence of the Czech puppet scene at all, we were still discovering completely new characters during work.

This is our latest book from the authors Marie and Pavel Jiráskovy and it maps their extensive collection. The photographs were being taken for three years, the working conditions for photography weren’t always the same, so the photographer Karel Poneš had a lot of work during retouching and finding a similar color for the background.

The decision that the book will be printed in a stochastic raster is the result of the efforts to make it a perfectly crafty object. The cover, which resembles a silk puppet dress, also corresponds to this. The special red color, which was created by mixing reflective colors, was also inspired by puppets – red cheeks of princesses, clowns, and peasants.

As the title font, we chose Chiswick, which is used in its weakest section, and we used the typesetting font intentionally contrasting.

We worked great together, trust is the best way to create something extraordinary. We thank the publishers Karel Kerlický, Maria, and Pavel.
